What is Counselling
Home / What is Counselling
Counselling is talking to a therapist, who will listen and give you insight into the issues which is contributing to how you feel.
The idea behind counselling is that talking about problems can help us solve them – we’re all human beings with feelings and experiences that affect how we see ourselves, others around us and our environment at large. Talking through these issues makes sense; it helps us become aware of what’s happening so that we can find solutions for changing things for better or worse depending on what direction someone wants their life path to take next!
Talking about your feelings can help you feel better and solve problems.
- Talking about your feelings allows you to understand yourself better.
- Talking about your feelings allows you to understand other people better.
- Talking about your feelings allows you to build stronger relationships with others, which in turn leads to more happiness and peace of mind in life!
Your counsellor should treat you with respect and be honest with you throughout the process.
- A good counsellor will explain their expectations of you before starting therapy, as well as any rules or boundaries that apply during sessions. They should also let you know if there are any limitations on how many times per week they can meet with clients, or whether there is an age limit (for example 16+). Some people prefer not knowing these details until after their first session so that it doesn’t affect their decision-making process when choosing a counsellor. However, we recommend being upfront about this information so there aren’t any surprises later down the line.
- Be honest throughout: It may seem obvious but honesty from both parties is crucial for trust building which helps make progress possible in therapy sessions between client and practitioner alike.”
Counselling can help you work through your issues and change your life for the better
Counselling is a process that allows you to work through your issues and change your life for the better. Counselling can help you manage your mental health and build resilience in times of stress. It’s also a safe space to share your thoughts, feelings and experiences with someone who will listen without judging or criticizing you.
The counsellor will guide the session by asking open-ended questions that help explore what’s going on in your mind and how it affects you as an individual. This helps them understand where they should focus their efforts when trying to find solutions together with their client (the person seeking support).
